Hi, my name is Patrick Thayer, Bioink Officer at CELLINK. For the past 8 years during my undergraduate and graduate school career I have worked in various research labs on projects ranging from the influence of pathologic mechanical forces on heart valve phenotypes within strain/pressure bioreactor systems to the engineering of composite scaffolds consisting of micro-fiber and hydrogels for connective tissue engineering. Now on the other side, I hope to use my experiences in academia to develop novel tools and materials for any researcher that wants to get involved or is working in the bioprinting field.

I am always open to learning new things and talking to people about their research. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, camping, cooking, watching baseball, and traveling.

1. What was your dream job as a child? When I was a child I wanted to be a farmer. My dad had a big vegetable garden in the backyard and I would always help doing the most important part which was picking the vegetables.

2. If you could have a super power what would it be?  I think having the healing factor like Wolverine would be cool. I like to hike and stuff and I’m getting older so my knees are not quite in the best shape anymore from past marathon running activities.

3. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you? I like to cook and get excited when I buy a new cooking pot or pan. Probably rubbed off on me from my mom who likes to cook recipes from her Irish and Italian grandparents.
