Name: Priyanka Koti
Location: Boston, MA
Position: Bioink and Tissue Engineering Intern
Hello, I’m Priya! I was born in Leicester, England, but I grew up in the “Christmas City” of the US, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I recently graduated with degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University (Master’s) and The George Washington University (Bachelor’s). My research and capstone projects in school revolved around bioprinting, and eventually led me to apply for an internship at CELLINK. The rest is history.
What sparked your interest to work with bioprinting?
I’ve always had an interest in 3D printing and its ability to evolve healthcare. In college, I worked at a cardiovascular lab, where my job was to design and bioprint slices of cardiac tissue. It wasn’t long before I was fixated on bioprinting and its potential to help the body regrow and repair itself.
What do you hope to see happen with bioprinting during your lifetime?
This summer at CELLINK we’ve been printing tumor models for in vitro drug screenings. In the near future, I hope to see similar models implemented in medicine—as a means of advancing personalized medicine and aiding drug discovery.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Aside from my interests in healthcare and engineering, I love music and I’ve been moonlighting as a clarinetist for the last 14 years.
What was your dream job as a child?
As a kid, my dream job changed daily. But among them I wanted to be a veterinarian, physician or pilot.
If you could have one superpower what would it be?
The ability to speak and understand any language, wherever I go.
